Tripura govt files charges against arrested ATTF supremo

Agartala, Feb 8 (PTI) The Tripura government today pressed charges under the National Security Act (NSA) against All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) supremo Ranjit Debbarma, who was arrested by security forces near the Indo-Bangla border in Mohanpur, about 25 KM from here on January 22. "Following the recommendation from police, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura district slapped charges under NSA against the ATTF supremo who is charged of atrocious crimes like killing, kidnapping and committing massacres", West Tripura district Superintendent of Police, G K Rao told reporters. Two insurgent outfits, ATTF and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), were declared outlawed on April 3, 1997. The ATTF supremo, Ranjit Debbarma, who was staying in Dhaka, carried a reward of Rs. two lakh on his head. He was arrested by security forces from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on December 30 last year and later sent to India. Tripura police arrested him from Mohanpur area on January 22. PTI JOY CR DKB HKS
