Star India bags IPL's global media rights for over Rs 16,000 crore

The 'global media rights' include the Indian television, digital as well as the overseas broadcast and digital media rights.

Star India has won the 'Global Media Rights' of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a period of five years (2018-2023) for a whopping Rs 16,347.50 crore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Monday.

The 'global media rights' include the Indian television, digital as well as the overseas broadcast and digital media rights.

Uday Shankar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Star India said, "We believe that IPL is a very powerful property and there is lots more value that can be created for fans and viewers".

"We made a conscious call that we will bid for the global rights," he added.
