OP Bhatt appointed as board member of Stanchart Plc

Ex-State Bank of India chairman, OP Bhatt has been appointed as independent non-executive director on the Board of Standard Chartered Plc.

Ex-State Bank of India chairman, OP Bhatt has been appointed as independent non-executive director on the Board of Standard Chartered Plc. Bhatt is the first executive from the public sector to be on the board of one of the largest and well regarded financial institutions in the world. Two other prominent Indians who serve on the boards of international financial institutions are Mr L N Mittal on the board of Goldman Sachs and Mr Mukesh Ambani on the board of Bank of America.

Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Board stated: “We are taking a long-term, strategic, forward-looking approach to refreshing the Board, balancing our need both to maintain longevity and stability on the Board whilst regularly refreshing its composition”.  

Bhatt has extensive banking, financial services and leadership acumen with deep knowledge and experience across India. He is also an independent non-executive director of Tata Consultancy Services, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, India and Hindustan Unilever Ltd.
