The number of internet subscribers in India surged from 88.1 crore in March 2023 to 95.4 crore by March 2024, marking a notable addition of 7.3 crore subscribers, said Ministry of Communications citing a report. This represents an annual growth rate of 8.30%.

Broadband services were a major driver of this growth, with subscribers increasing from 84.6 crore to 92.4 crore, reflecting a strong growth rate of 9.15%. This rise underscores the growing demand for high-speed internet across the country.

The latest annual report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) highlights significant advancements in the sector over the past year.

Overall tele-density, which measures the proportion of telephone connections in the population, improved from 84.51% to 85.69%. The number of telephone subscribers also grew from 117.2 crore to 119.9 crore, representing a 2.3% increase.
