Pune-based Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a union for IT professionals, has filed a request to the Ministry of Labour & Employment to investigate IT major Infosys for “repeatedly delaying the onboarding of over 2,000 campus recruits”.
NITES claims that these delays have persisted for more than two years and have caused hardship for the affected employees.
“Many had turned down other job offers in good faith, relying on Infosys's offer letters. Now, they face financial hardship and uncertainty due to the lack of income and a clear onboarding timeline. Infosys's actions constitute a serious breach of trust with these young professionals. They trusted Infosys to provide a smooth transition into their careers, but instead, they've been left in limbo,” said Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES.

Earlier, Moneycontrol reported that Infosys is hiring more than half of its fresher workforce off campus and so the company is yet to decide its campus hiring target for the fiscal year 2025.
The IT services giant had skipped campus hiring for at least the last three quarters in the fiscal year 2024, a year after it had hired roughly 51,000 freshers in FY23.
Speaking at Infosys’ fourth quarter earnings conference in Bengaluru, Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka had said: “We have changed our hiring model significantly. We no more hire all the freshers from campus. We hire less than half of them from campus and more than half of them off campus.”

NITES wrote to the ministry to investigate the matter and ensure that Infosys fulfils certain obligations to its new hires. This includes full salary payments for the period during which onboarding has been delayed, providing affected recruits with immediate access to Infosys's employee assistance program to address the mental and emotional strain caused by the delay, and if onboarding remains infeasible, Infosys must actively work with the recruits to find alternative employment opportunities within the organisation.
Last year, the Ministry of Labour and Employment of Maharashtra issued a notice to information technology major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) over a complaint of delaying onboarding of “200 lateral recruits” filed by NITES.
In July 2023, the union filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India highlighting the “delayed onboarding of over 200 lateral recruits by TCS”. Later, the complaint was transferred to the Maharashtra government.
