Foreign investors (FIIs/FPIs) turned into net sellers again, on December 23, selling Rs 1795 crore worth of Indian equities on Tuesday. At the same time, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares worth Rs 3812 crore, according to provisional exchange data.
During the trading session, DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 15,296 crore and sold shares worth Rs 11,238 crore. In contrast, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 10,714 crore but sold shares totalling Rs 11,171 crore.
For the year so far, FIIs have been net sellers of shares worth Rs 2.77 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought shares worth Rs 7.61 lakh crore.
Market Performance
At the close, the Sensex slipped 42.64 points, or 0.05%, to 85,524.84, while the Nifty edged up 4.75 points, or 0.02%, to 26,177.15. The midcap index finished flat, whereas the small-cap index posted modest gains of 0.37%. Sectorally, IT, healthcare, PSU banks and realty stocks declined 0.2–0.8%, while media gained 0.6%. Metals and PSU stocks rose about 0.5% each, and the energy index advanced 0.6%
Market breadth stayed in favour of the bulls for the third straight session, as the BSE advance-decline ratio stood at 1.22, highlighting sustained buying interest in mid- and small-cap segments.
The Indian rupee ended flat for the second straight session on Tuesday, as year-end rebalancing flows offset intraday weakness. Despite this temporary stability, the combination of surging forward premiums, rising bond yields, and thinning liquidity points towards a volatile path ahead.by broad-based buying interest and favourable global cues."
