Commodity Champions: The big divide in sugar output

There is a bitter dispute brewing in the sugar industry over the production estimates for 2016 and 2017. The sugar industry body Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has been under fire from the government for lowering their output estimates to 20.3 million tonnes. Food Minister Ramvilas Paswan outrightly dismissed ISMA's projections and even called it misleading. He also exuded confidence in India's sugar production and said that there will be no need to import sugar to meet domestic demand.
