Bharat Bijlee Limited announced plans to increase its transformer capacity by an additional 7,000 MVA at its existing Airoli Factory in Navi Mumbai. The decision was approved by the Board of Directors during a meeting held on August 25, 2025, via video conferencing.
The expansion will raise the total transformer capacity from 28,000 MVA to 35,000 MVA, requiring a capital expenditure of ₹65 crore. This follows an earlier approval on May 17, 2024, for a ₹170 crore investment to increase capacity from 18,000 MVA to 28,000 MVA.

Out of the 17000 MVA, proposed Transformer Capacity Addition, 10000 MVA capacity expansion was intimated to BSE Limited and National Stock Exchange of India Limited, on May 17, 2024. The balance 7000 MVA is the current proposed additional expansion.
The company aims to complete the capacity addition within 12 months, financing the project through internal accruals. This expansion is intended to meet the increasing demand for transformers.
