Today was a nothing kind of session, according to CNBC-TV18’s managing editor Udayan Mukherjee where neither the bulls nor the bears took away too much. 5,100 held out but then we did not even make it to 5,150 at any point in trade.

Some stocks like ONGC, GAIL, HPCL, the odd ACC, Ambuja, Kotak, HDFC Bank and Bank of Baroda did quite well. TCS was also strong but then gains were capped off by loses in largecaps like HUL and Infosys for the index.
The breadth was nothing special with the same number of advancing to declining stocks, but names like Manappuram, Dish TV, Sun TV, Zee, TV18 and Network18 did quite well.
Jain Irrigation, United Phosphorus, SREI Infra, GSPL were other stocks which did quite well.
On the losing side - Kingfisher, Essar oil, India Cement and Reliance Capital were some of the names which did not have a very good session.
All in all a very forgettable session for the market as it grinds towards expiry and looks for more cues coming in from the European Summit.
The rupee spent most of the day on a weak patch above 57 to the dollar, but towards the end some RBI intervention reportedly pulled it back to below the 57 mark.
