Are ELSS schemes really in demand? The debate continues

There are numerous benefits of investing in equity-linked saving schemes (ELSS). Most market experts feel that ELSS offer potentially higher returns via equity to investors and also helps them earning dividends. However, there could be some setbacks also.

There are numerous benefits of investing in equity-linked saving schemes (ELSS). Most market experts feel that ELSS offer potentially higher returns via equity to investors and also helps them earning dividends. However, there could be some setbacks also.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18's Mitali Mukherjee, Sanjiv Bajaj, joint managing director of Bajaj Capital and S Naren, CIO-Equity at ICICI Prudential gave completely opposite views on ELSS investment. In the view of Sanjiv Bajaj, ELSS have done very well over past couple of months and has formed majority of equity flows. He said that fixed deposits under 80C Act has created a fair competition to ELSS schemes.
