Indian information technology (IT) and consulting companies are continuing to monitor the India-Pakistan situation closely and are still in a “wait and watch” mode.
The development comes after India agreed to Pakistan’s request of not escalating the clashes any further on May 10, after the neighbouring country called on India’s Director General of Military Operations.
HCLTech employees confirmed to Moneycontrol that the WFH advisory was limited to Friday, May 9. “I am in the office,” an employee said on the condition of anonymity. However, HCLTech employees are required to be in the office three days a week, in any case.
Meanwhile, Deloitte, which had activated an all-India command centre hotline and suspended non-essential travel, remains in a "wait and watch" mode, sources told Moneycontrol. “We will also wait for any government advisory, especially regarding travel,” a person familiar with the matter said.
The company added that its default operating model remains hybrid, and it is ready to revert to it if the situation demands.
Deloitte also has a robust internal emergency communication system in place, which can reach employees via SMS, email (official and personal), and even voice calls. “This message can be geo-targeted, whether it's to specific cities or offices, or to the whole country,” the source added.
The command centre hotline remains active for employees seeking real-time updates.
On May 9, IT and global tech services companies advised employees to work from home and restricted domestic and international work travel in the near term as the India-Pakistan conflict intensified.
The WFH advisory memos were mainly for employees in the Delhi-NCR and northern regions of the country which have been put on high alert in the ongoing attacks.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror hubs spread across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The surgical strikes focused on infrastructure used by groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Soon after, Pakistan retaliated with a series of drone and munition attacks, triggering a sharp military exchange. India claimed to have successfully repelled these strikes, stating its forces issued a “befitting reply.”
The conflict escalated sharply on May 9 and 10, when Indian armed forces launched precision airstrikes on several key Pakistani military installations.
