Railway Budget 2016-17: Dynamic freight policy will be +ve for rlys, says Titagarh

The Railway Budget, to be introduced in the Parliament today, is expected to focus on the completion of ongoing projects rather than announcing new ones and attracting private capital to boost the railway infrastructure remains to be one of its key challenges.

Freight revenue should be focused in this Budget as its market share has fallen from 80 percent to 30 percent, says Umesh Chowdhary, VC and MD of Titagarh Wagons.

Speaking with CNBC-TV18, he said that a dynamic freight policy similar to that of airlines will be a great positive for the rail sector and he further expects huge reforms in railways from this Budget.

In the same interview, Sachchidanand Shukla of Axis Capital said that he expects capital expenditure to be raised by 25 percent from previous years Rs 1 lakh crore (Rs 1 trillion) and sees scope for passenger fare hike.Watch video for more.
