It'll pour in July; rainfall deficiency down to 12%: Met Dept

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 DS Pai of the indian Meteorological Department said that central Maharashtra has seen a deficiency in rainfall of about 30 percent.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 DS Pai of the Indian Meteorological Department said that central Maharashtra has seen a deficiency in rainfall of about 30 percent."In Vidharba the deficiency is about 13 percent, while Konkan and Goa has seen a surplus of 12 percent," Pai said.The Met department had predicted the first half of June to see moderate rains, while the second half will see above-average mosoons, it said.

Overall for the country, rainfall deficiency is reduced to 12 percent. Pai said region-wise monsoon will steadily improve. In South Peninsular, which has seen the most rainfall, the monsoon punched above its weight with a surplus of 22 percent. Pai expects that in one week to 10 days, rains will kick it up a notch.

He says forecast for July is about 107 percent of long period average, unchanged from the Met's earlier prediction.
