Banking on govt funds to modernise railways: Rly Min

While Railways minister Dinesh Trivedi admitted that finances were a problem, he says he is looking to the government to provide nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore to the railways for the modernisation drive.

Modernising the Indian Railways' network alone will need a whopping Rs 5.6 lakh crore. That's the word from an expert committee headed by Sam Pitroda. The panel's report also says that the railways would need a total investment of nearly Rs 10 lakh crore over a five year period.
