Recently a report by Global NCAP a UK based agency that tests cars on the grounds of how safe they are for the driver and the passengers, red-flagged some of India's most popular car models. In a report titled "Safer Cars for India", global NCAP gave 0 ratings i.e. the lowest possible score - to five cars which are Renault Kwid, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Eeco, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Eon. In a carefully worded press release Global NCAP said, "Global NCAP strongly believes that no manufacturer anywhere in the world should be developing new models that are so clearly sub-standard. Car makers must ensure that their new models pass the UN's minimum crash test regulations, and support use of an airbag."Predictably, the report led to an outrage on the social media and journalists lapped up the story. However automakers have reacted sharply, they have questioned the suitability of such standards for Indian roads, raised doubts over possible "conflict of interest" and pretty much said why should they listen to them. So, watch David Ward Secretary General, Global NCAP, Rakesh Srivastava Senior VP - Sales & Marketing Hyundai Motor India and Sumit Sawhney MD & CEO, Renault India give their views on this contentious issue to CNBC-TV18's Ronojoy Banerjee. For full discussion watch accompanying videos.....
