Moneycontrol BureauStarting December 4 every Reliance Jio user will get data, voice, video and a bouquet of other Jio applications fully free up to March 31, 2017, announced Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries while addressing stakeholders via a live broadcast on Thursday. The scheme called "Jio Happy New Year offer" will cover new as well as existing customers.
Reliance Jio has grown faster than Facebook, Whatsapp or Skype since its launch in September, said Ambani.
"A Jio customer under the free offer so far has been using 25 times more data than any average Indian broadband user. This is unleashing the transformative potential of data,” he said, adding, “on the whole Jio is not only delivering 4 times more data than all other telecom players combined but also much higher speed than any other mobile network in India."
So far Jio has rolled out 2 lakh e-KYC portals and is now working to double this network to 4 lakh digitally enabled outlets by March 2017.
Ambani noted that Jio has not received required support from existing telecom players in terms of interconnect points with 900 calls from Jio to 3 large operators being blocked. However, Jio is working towards sorting this. "All domestic voice calls will be flawless and free soon," he added.
Over the past months the call block rates have come down from 90 percent to nearly 20 percent and Jio is striving to bring it down further, he said.
He also announced that Jio now fully supports mobile number portability and customers can retain existing numbers when they migrate. A new service of home-delivering SIM cards has also been launched.Watch the accompanying video for more details...
