Under the goods and services tax (GST) regime, footwear which is priced below Rs 500 per unit will be taxed at 5 percent and footwear above Rs 500 mark would be taxed at 18 percent.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Ramesh Kumar Dua, MD of Relaxo Footwears and Adesh Gupta, CEO of Liberty Shoes shared their views on the GST.
Will take two-three months to find the actual rate impact of GST, said Dua.
Liberty's Gupta said that GST is going to be a game changer for the entire Indian economy and particularly for the footwear industry.
He further said that 80 percent of footwear industry comprises of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
