A large number of cement companies have applied to the Meghalaya government to set up plants in the limestone-rich state, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said today.
"I am getting so many application for setting up of Cement plants in Meghalaya," Sangma said while addressing a Golden Jubilee celebration of the Customs Act, 1962 here. He said, "I am looking at investment in areas which could be exploited commercially and which will not affect the environment." Meghalaya, having an inferred reserve of more than 4000 million tones of limestone, has a proven reserves are more than 500 million tonnes. Hinting at hydro power generation, the Chief Minister said, "There are renewable resources that we can exploit commercially like water and forest produces such as bamboo. He urged investors to identify the right resources which is 'investment attractive.' "We welcome investors to exploit the immense potential the state has apart from the coal and limestone and other minerals," he said.
