Public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation is on track to increase the generation capacity to 10,000 MW in the next ten years, a top company official has said.
"NLC has an installed capacity of 2,740 MW which includes three thermal power stations in Neyveli and 250 MW capacity located at Barsingsar in Rajasthan. We are on track to achieve our ambitious plan of 10,000 MW," NLC Chairman and Managing Director B Surender Mohan told reporters here yesterday.
"Very soon, 3x660MW super critical thermal power station will come up at Ghathampur in Uttar Pradesh. Also, two power stations in Tamil Nadu are also on the cards," he said.
Already Rs 140 cr has been invested towards land acquisition. Earlier this week on Wednesday, public investment board met and gave green signal for the project. Packages will be ordered within the next six months pending sanction order from Government of India.
NLC is putting up two units of 500MW capacity coal based thermal power plant in Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu for which state Government has issued project based enquiry.
At Tuticorin, two units are coming up for which work was already in progress. He was hopeful that one of the units (500MW) will start power generation by December 2013. For this project, the original outlay was Rs 5,000 crore but this was likely to enhance to Rs 6500 crore by way of investment. At Tuticorin out of the total coal consumption 30 per cent will be imported stocks and the balance will be from domestic procurement.
He said that coal linkage to these power plants will not face any problem as very recently Government of India had put up details of coal block allocation in the web site and that the company shall apply based on its requirements of coal linkage.
Earlier laying the foundation stone for community hall annexure at Allambadi Mettur village in Lalgudi taluk about 45 km from here, he said NLC was spending to the tune of Rs 13 crore towards Corporate Social Responsibility schemes. The company has identified 120 villages where in basic infrastructure will be provided.
