After facing a flurry of allegations of mal-practices and crony capitalism from the political upstart Aam Aadmi Party, Anil Ambani led Reliance Infrastructure has hit back in the form a defamation suit against AAP.
Through the defamation suit, the ADAG Company is seeking to restrain the Kejriwal-led political party – AAP from making allegations against the company and the Maharasthra power regulator. The suit has sought an injunction restraining the party from making allegations about alleged clout of the company over the regulator.
In the petition, the company has red-flagged various allegations that were raised by the party. The company has objected to allegations that the alleged mistakes attributable to Reliance Infrastructure has resulted in higher power tariffs.
The company also frowned upon allegations that Reliance Infrastructure had exploited its clout over the government and the regulator for protection of monopoly and scuttling of competition. AAP had alleged losses of over Rs 22,000 crore to the state exchequer owing to malpractices employed by Mahagenco, a state power utility, and Reliance Infrastructure.
The company is likely to argue that accusations of high power tariffs were not manageable as rates were fixed by the power regulator through a comprehensive process involving competitive bidding. Reliance infra, in the petition, has termed the allegations as lacking in homework and irresponsible.
Bombay HC will hear the defamation suit on Mar 7.
