In a case where a lessor has been seeking de-registration of aircraft leased to SpiceJet, the Delhi High Court today granted the carrier time till April 7 to settle the dispute with its lessor, AWAS Ireland.
AWAS has been seeking de-registration of six of its aircraft.
SpiceJet has been sued by a number of its lessors who allege non-payment of dues. The cases date to a few months back when the company was reeling under a financial crisis.
After it was taken over by a new management recently, Spice has been looking to settle the cases, and recently announced a settlement with another Irish lessor, Wilmington Trust, which was seeking de-registration of three aircraft.
A seperate case involving a third lessor, BBAM, is also under way where the latter has rejected Spice's settlement offer. While BBAM says the carrier "does not appear keen" to settle, Spice maintains it will renew its offer. Hearing in the BBAM case is due on April 6.
SpiceJet is India’s number-two low-fare carrier that operates 19 Boeing aircrat, along with 15 Bombardier Q400 aircraft that are focused on Tier II and Tier III cities.
