In a last push to get an environmental clearance for Orissa ultra mega power project (UMPP), the power ministry is likely to seek an approval from the group of ministers on coal, reports CNBC-TV18's Mehak Kasbekar.

The GoM is to meet for the first time on July 2 to consider whether UMPP should get clearance or not. The government of India has about four UMPPs that have been allotted so far, of which three are in the Orissa coal blocks. The proposal has been languishing for an environmental clearance with the environment ministry for the last 11 months. The MoEF has issues with two of the three Orissa coal blocks. The power ministry also seeks more coal for private companies from the GoM. In fact it is seeking for an immediate release of coal of 12,000 megawatts projects.
