SRK tops Forbes India celebrity 100 list

He may have not delivered the most memorable films in the recent past, but Shahrukh Khan continues to remain the undisputed king of Bollywood. Making it to the top spot on the inaugural Forbes India celebrity 100 list, reports CNBC-TV18's Farah Bookwala.

It's the Indian hall of fame and actor-cum-businessman Shahrukh Khan has his picture perched on the highest wall. The inaugural Forbes India celebrity 100 list, it’s the ranking of India's biggest entertainers. It is based on their income and popularity. SRK waltz to the top of the list. Thanks to his earning power. He raked Rs 202.8 crore last year, through both films and endorsements.

In the list of top 10 celebs, SRK is joined by five fraternity and four cricketer friends and only 2 women celebrities, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, making the cut. On number two is Salman Khan with Rs 144.2 crore in earnings and at number three is MS Dhoni with earnings of Rs 135.2 crore. Akshay Kumar is at number four with Rs 179.8 crores, Amitabh Bachchan is at number five with Rs116.3 crore while Sachin Tendulkar is at number six with earnings of Rs 97.5 crores. Kareena Kapoor takes the number seven spot with earnings of Rs 73.5 crore, Virendra Sehwag follows at number eight with Rs 27.7 crore, Virat Kohli is at number nine with earnings of Rs 47.3 crore. Katrina Kaif trails at number 10 with Rs 65.2 crore in earnings.

Collectively, these top 10 celebrities raked in a moolah of Rs 1,090 crore while the top 100 together earned Rs 2,384 crore. Amongst top endorsers, SRK took the top spot again, having earned Rs 149.5 crores through 23 brand endorsements. While MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar followed.

However, SRK made way for arch-rival Salman Khan in the list of the most expensive endorsers. While Salman Khan charges approximately Rs 7 crore per endorsement, SRK charges Rs 6.5 crore rupee and Dhoni charges Rs 5.9 crore.

Category wise, while SRK and Dhoni were voted top actor and sportspersons respectively, AR Rahman was voted top musician. Malaika Arora Khan was voted top TV celebrity, Karan Johar top director and Chetan Bhagat top author. Rich, famous and much-desired, these are India's crowning glory.
