Ashok Vemuri, who quit as the Operations Head of Americas at Infosys on Wednesday, is likely to be chosen as the next chief executive officer (CEO) of iGate. The board of directors at the IT solutions firm will soon decide on the post after Phaneesh Murthy leaves. The executive council, appointed to identify iGate's next CEO has prepared a shortlist where Vemuri has emerged as the frontrunner, reports CNBC-TV18's Kritika Saxena, quoting sources.

Sources say that iGate is actively looking for someone based out of US and can be responsible for restructuring the strategy of the company, be closer to the client and expand the onsite capabilities of the firm. The move will be a big leg up for iGate considering the fact that most brokerages and institutional investors have backed Vemuri. Meanwhile, Girish Paranjpe, former CEO of Wipro has also been shortlisted. Jeya Kumar, who was CEO of Patni when iGate acquired the firm, may not have made it to the list.
