The promoters of Essar Tele – Ravi and Anshuman Ruia and their relatives Kiran and IP Khaitan have asked the trial court to return their passports, reports CNBC-TV18’s Malvika Jain.
The Ruias and Khaitans have been named accused in the 2G scam case along with Essar Teleholding’s director, Vikas Saraf.
All the accused in the 2G case whether they were named in the first charge sheet or in the second supplementary charge sheet have had deposited their passports, with the court. In this case also the same rule applied to the Khaitan’s and Ruia’s while they applied for bail. So, now these five individuals have asked the court to return their passports on the plea that they are NRIs and that they may need to travel abroad. They have been complying with all court orders and will continue to do so in the future. However, the CBI opposed this petition moved by these five individuals and this matter will be debated on August 1.
In the meantime, today the Ruia’s and the Khaitan’s were present at the cross examination of witnesses today. HSBC’s Associate Vice President concurred the signatures on documents and identified them to be those of Vikas Saraf. At the beginning of the hearing there was a brief flutter when the court objected to somebody recording the trial yesterday but no action was taken because this individual apologized to the court.
