Faced with stiff opposition, the central government may bring back the consent clause in the Land Acquisition amendment that has waylaid the process of its passing, according to various media reports including one in the PTI.
The bill will be tabled on Monday.
"The Centre is proposing to water down the "consent" clause and do away with "social impact assessment" to make the process of land acquisition less tedious. But it has faced stiff resistance from the opposition," Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, adding that the government was open to making changes to address concerns of all parties.
The amendment has run into trouble, with most parties, including allies of the ruling BJP, terming the decision to remove the clause that requires more-than-a-majority approval for land to be acquired for five sectors as 'anti-farmer'.
The BJP has hit back at critics, saying the amendment to the Land Acquisition Act, which was passed by the Congress when it was in power, does not require consent in 13 different cases and that the amendment was looking to add more.
Industrialists have said procedural issues in the land act has hampered progress on various projects.
