Today is International Women's Day. The day is observed on March 8 every year and has been recognised by the United Nations since 1975 to honour the extraordinary contributions women have made. This year, with its 2025 Doodle, Google shines a spotlight on visionary women in STEM who have made groundbreaking contributions to the world of science.

In its blog post, Google wrote: "This Doodle celebrates International Women's Day and the artwork honours those whose work in space exploration, archaeology, and lab research has revolutionised our understanding of physics, chemistry, and biology. These women’s achievements represent only a fraction of the vast impact women have had in the world of science and innovation."

Yet, despite these monumental accomplishments, women still represent only 29 percent of the global STEM workforce, a figure that underscores the need for more equitable representation in these fields.
