Whether it’s the bold, spiced warmth of a cocktail, the vibrant freshness of mocktails crafted with seasonal fruits, or the soothing allure of traditional hot beverages, winter drinks tend to create an experience that feels personal yet universal.
What makes winter drinks so special are their versatility. They can be tailored to every mood and gathering—be it a cosy evening by the fire with mulled creations, lively celebrations with bright, herbaceous, fruit infusions, or intimate get-togethers where warming brews take centre stage.
For parties and get-togethers, Rohan Bhatt, Manager at Loya, Taj Palace, New Delhi recommends some chic wintery drinks infused with warming spices like cinnamon and star anise for chilly evenings. He says, “Opt for a spiced mulled wine enhanced with saffron, nutmeg, and a touch of jaggery for a regional twist. Or, go for a Hot Toddy with warm whiskey, honey, and a hint of fennel for a comforting drink. Teetotalers can go for a seasonal pomegranate and zesty ginger mule or a nice cup of masala chai.”

On the other hand, Susmita Bomzon, Restaurant Manager and sommelier at Captain’s Cellar, Taj Mahal, New Delhi, picks a spiced Hot Chocolate with a dash of whiskey, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings for a luxurious treat that combines warmth and decadence alike. Mocktails are also a season favourite in winter, especially with Spiced Apple Cider leading the way, she adds. Bomzon says, “Another seasonal option is the Orange Tea Spritz, which combines fresh orange juice and tea cordial, topped with soda for a light, fizzy twist. If warm beverages are a preference then, Soo-cha, a salted black tea brewed with hot milk and finished with a dollop of butter, offers a unique and velvety option that intrigues the guests.”
Make it shine:
Every drink should be a feast for the eyes before it graces the palate. To elevate the visual effect, Bhatt recommends, “Add dried rose petals floating atop a cocktail or star anise for a chic finish. From the jewel tones of pomegranate seeds to the golden glow of saffron, a touch of colour always adds to the charm of any drink. Picture spices or edible flowers frozen into clear ice or adding a swirl of clove or cinnamon smoke for fragrance. Using right vessels like copper tumblers or handcrafted brass coupes make any drink more aesthetic. Keeping syrups, infused waters, or drink bases ready ahead of time makes assembling drinks a breeze. Setting up a DIY garnish station with an array of fresh herbs, citrus slices, and spices can add an interactive and creative element for guests.”

Plan ahead:
When hosting a large party, drinks can be served effortlessly with a bit of an advance planning. One effective strategy is to prepare batch cocktails in a punch bowl or a large dispenser. According to Bomzon, “A time saving tip is to prepare dehydrated garnishes. A few sustainable and long-lasting options like citrus slices, apple chips, or herbs can be made in advance and used to instantly enhance the drinks. Freeze garnishes such as cranberries, mint leaves, or rosemary sprigs into large ice cubes. Not only do they look stunning in drinks, but they also chill beverages without diluting them quickly. Infusing spirits a few days before the event is a great way to add depth and flavour to cocktails. For instance, caramelized rum or peach vodka can be prepared ahead of time and strained for easy use.”
