Amit Thakur is an expert hair artist, known for styling top-notch celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and Kiara Advani, among others. He recently took to his Instagram account to share the ‘irreversible damage’ that can occur if you straighten your damp hair without drying it completely.

Amit said, “Using a straightener on damp hair is a complete no-go. When you use heat on wet or damp hair, the water inside the hair strand boils and turns into steam. And since the moisture has nowhere to escape, it expands inside the hair, literally blasting tiny holes through the hair shaft. This is what we call the Bubble Hair Effect.”

This has a negative impact on the health of your hair and does much more damage than you’d imagine. He added, “It literally weakens the protein structure of your hair, making it more brittle, prone to breakage, and also harder to repair.”

The long-term result is “irreversible damage,” leading to poor hair strength that is difficult to restore. In his video, he suggested, “I always advise drying your hair 100 per cent before using any curling iron or straightening machine, and, most importantly, not forgetting heat protection.”

Amit often shares tips to style all kinds and types of hair, and another of his recent videos showed an easy way to style curtain bangs.
