Women are increasingly turning to not just the gym for fitter bodies but also anabolic steroids for a much aspired muscular body. While strength training does help a great deal in staying healthy, taking steroids comes with major side effects, researchers warn, they may not be aware of.

It is not difficult to get “influenced” these days, especially after looking at the most glamorous, well-toned bodies on your screens. Fitness influencers further fuel the desire by endorsing the benefits of powerlifting, strength training, and essentially any move that helps them appear more muscular.

While men bulk up and build muscle more easily, it can be much harder for women, though many now aspire to the same look. As a result, some are not relying solely on the gym, but also turning to steroids. A 2024 research suggests that about 4% of women have used anabolic steroids at least once, which is a marked increase from 1.6% a decade ago.

There’s no denying that strength training helps women in a number of ways, including stronger bones, better metabolism, improved mood, and even increased longevity. However, researchers warn that taking steroids without proper knowledge and correct guidance can do more harm than good.

Dangerous side effects of steroid use in women
