Post her diagnosis of myositis, Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s diet and workouts are not the same. She has taken significant steps to keep her foods clean, fresh, and gut-friendly. In a new podcast with Ryan Fernando, the actress revealed switching from junk food to swearing by an anti-inflammatory diet.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Diet Switch
She shared, “My diet is a bit strict. It was nowhere close to what it is now. I was a big foodie, like junk food pro max. I thought I was invincible. Nothing affected me. I was always on the skinnier side and never really put on weight, so I could eat anything. At least, I thought that.”

However, over the course of her treatment, she realised there’s a lot about food she was not aware of. It’s not just about unhealthy eating, but also certain foods that cause inflammation. It caused a switch and led her to adopt healthier food practices.
She said, “I didn’t know that it was not just about the weight, but also about inflammation that could manifest in many other ways. Everyone thinks junk food is associated with weight gain, but there’s so much more to eating healthier. My diet is mostly anti-inflammatory. It is just about finding out what doesn't work for you and eliminating it from your diet.”
What is an Anti-Inflammatory Diet?
While there may be no one diet, there are certain foods that can help bring inflammation down.

Like Samantha spoke about, consuming cruciferous vegetables that include cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. However, she shared that kale and spinach do not agree with her system. She also listed foods rich in healthy fats that are easily available in her fridge, like celery, turmeric, ghee, cold-pressed oils, and açai berries.
An anti-inflammatory diet, thus, includes foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, polyphenols, and gut-healthy food. It’s found in nuts and seeds, fruits, and vegetables such as cabbage, bell peppers, blueberries, grapes, pomegranates, avocado, olives, etc.
This diet helps eliminate foods that cause inflammation in the body, mainly through processed foods such as bread, pasta, processed meats, sweetened beverages, fried items, among others.
Samantha on No Cheat Days
Samantha surprised many by sharing that she has no cheat days but she has no complaints about it. She said, “It is the same kind of food for me everyday, and now I am used to it. People think it’s some sort of prison sentence. They say it must be so hard. But honestly, it’s a way of life for me and I love it.” The actress proudly added, “My greatest flex is my biomarkers, it’s not my bank details or the cars I own.”
