When it comes to playing roles, each film requires a different look, and Ranbir Kapoor has been no exception. For a film like Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, the actor had to get leaner, while for Animal he had to bulk up. On both occasions, the actor impressed audiences with his transformation.
His trainer, Shivohaam Bhatt, revealed in a YouTube podcast how each look took time to build. “I started training with Ranbir Kapoor before Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, where they required a beach body. He had to have six-pack abs, lean muscle, and definition. When we started, it was like a blank canvas. He asked me how much time it would take. I told him it’s going to take time because building anything, especially muscles, takes time. Fat loss is easier since it’s about breaking something down. But building required the right effort, training, and nutrition,” he shared.
Shivohaam praised Ranbir for his dedication and consistency despite his hectic schedule. “I was lucky because Ranbir is a very disciplined person, so he came for training consistently. That is literally why he is so successful today. I believe if a person is successful, you will see those qualities in every aspect of his life. It was evident in training as well,” he added.

Talking about the time it took for his transformation for both movies, Shivohaam said, “For Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, I told him to ask the director to take the body shots later because it takes time to build, and we didn’t want to take any shortcuts. I think it took almost a year. By the end of the year, we did the body shots and they turned out perfect. And that’s when he signed Animal.”
The training and nutrition were different again for Animal, and it took the actor more than a year to transform. Sharing details of Ranbir’s busy schedule, his trainer revealed, “Because of his lifestyle—night shoots, morning shoots, sometimes no time at all, sometimes just half an hour—it wasn’t easy. It took a year and a half, but we managed to add 10 to 12 kilos. The transformation was real.”
In the podcast, Shivohaam stressed the importance of mindset, which, according to him, supersedes everything. He said, “Motivation is like a spark, but to turn it into fire, discipline is the most important.” And, he added, discipline only comes from changing your mindset.
