COVID-19 cases are slowly on the rise again in UK, as a result health experts are keeping a close eye on two newly identified variants, named Nimbus and Stratus. Doctors say that while infections are increasing, the symptoms remain largely mild and similar to other seasonal viruses making the rounds.

As reported by Mirror, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) claims that the Stratus variant (lineage XFG) currently accounts for about 63% of sequenced Covid cases, while Nimbus makes up around 25%. The World Health Organization has classified Stratus as a “variant under monitoring” and stressed that the global health risk remains minimal.
