Fungal infections often occur during the rains or in humid weather, as the warm, moist environment of monsoon creates an optimal environment for fungi to thrive. Once established, fungus can easily spread via skin-to-skin contact, contaminated clothing, and moist surfaces. All fungi have the potential to deeply damage the skin, nails, and scalp if not treated. The general order of symptoms begins with red itchy circular (annular) spots with possible scaling/ring on the pecs of the skin (often in the areas like armpits, groin, under breasts, between toes).

Dr. Soni Gupta, Senior Consultant - Dermatologist, Aesthetic Physician & Hair Transplant, Max Multi Speciality Centre, Panchsheel Park, says good hygiene, breathable clothing, and keeping the skin dry to prevent moisture will reduce risk of fungal underlying issues.

What is a Fungal Infection?

Fungal infection, medically known as Mycosis, is caused by microscopic organisms called fungi. These fungi thrive in warm and moist environments and can infect the skin, scalp, nails, mouth, private parts, or body folds.
