If you live in Dubai, you’d know that some select grocery stores have installed high-tech fruit scanners to tell you if the fruit you have picked is ripe. These highly advanced devices give you results instantly without the need to cut the fruit, hence, leading to faster decision-making
A video posted by a Dubai influencer has gone viral, showing how fruit scanners work by picking two avocados from the grocery store display. She scans them individually, and each yields different results. The first one shows that it is ready to eat and firm, while the other shows it’s firm but not yet ripe enough to be eaten.
How does the high-tech fruit scanner work?
As claimed by the Dubai influencer, the pocket-sized gadget is highly useful for checking the ripeness of a fruit. It has advanced sensors to assess the internal firmness and sugar levels of the fruit without cutting it, making shopping easier for customers.

What makes the fruit ripeness scanner even more useful is its instant response in colour codes. It shows green for fruits that need more time to ripen, yellow for fruits that are perfectly ripe and ready to eat, and red for fruits that should be avoided because they are overripe.
Additionally, the scanner also recommends the best way to consume each fruit. Some of its culinary suggestions may include using fruits for salad, smoothies, or baking. This is part of the UAE’s endeavour to introduce technology into everyday lives of its residents for convenience and reducing wastage.

The Internet had the most interesting and hilarious responses to the Dubai influencer’s video. One user wrote, “Wow - ordinary people just use their hands.” Another commented, “Just curious. What happens if I place a body part of mine on it?”
A third joked, “In India we got phal wale bhaiya for that.” Another suggested, “For the perfect avocado, look for one that is firm but grab it slightly to check. This little trick helps prevent them from going bad too quickly!”
