GEETU - THE ACTOR
Born as Gayatri Das, Geetu Mohandas is better known by her screen name, Geetu, a name given to her by her family. Geetu began her career at a young age, entering the Malayalam film industry as a child artist. Her early work includes a memorable appearance alongside the legendary Mohanlal in the film Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare (1996), which won her the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. Geetu's acting career continued to flourish as she appeared in several films during her youth, including Sayam Sandhya, Veendum, and Fazil's En Bommukutty Ammavukku.
Her transition into adult roles came in 2000 with her debut as a lead actor in Life Is Beautiful, marking a significant turning point in her career. Over the years, Geetu went on to play pivotal roles in several notable films such as Thenkasipattanam, Nala Damayanthi, Oridam, Rapppakal, Naalu Pennungal, and Akasha Gopuram. Her last acting venture was Nammal Thammil in 2009, after which she gradually shifted focus towards direction.

In 2009, Geetu Mohandas ventured into filmmaking by establishing her production house, Unplugged. She made her debut as a director with the short film Kelkkunnundo, which was well-received.
Geetu's directorial breakthrough came with the socio-political drama Liar's Dice in 2013, which earned widespread acclaim. The film not only won two National Film Awards but was also selected as India’s official entry for the 87th Academy Awards, though it did not make it to the shortlist.
Geetu’s second full-length directorial film, Moothon (2019), starring Nivin Pauly, further solidified her reputation as a talented filmmaker. The film, which was lauded for its storytelling and raw emotion, won the Global Filmmaking Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016, adding to her growing list of accolades.
Currently, Geetu is working on Toxic, a high-budget film starring Yash, and it is expected to be a major project, with reports indicating the involvement of prominent actors like Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, and Huma Qureshi.
