On Friday, the veteran actor once again dipped into her treasure trove of memories and narrated a charming incident involving none other than celebrated fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

The actress, who has worked in some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic films like Don, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna, recalled how she failed to recognize the ace designer when they shared an elevator ride a few years ago. She posted the story while wearing a striking red Sabyasachi top that she had earlier donned for a Vogue cover shoot.

The memory dates back to November 2022. Zeenat Aman had stepped out to celebrate the birthday of her friend at Mumbai’s iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel. After enjoying high tea at the Sea Lounge, the group split up—while some went window-shopping at the boutiques, Zeenat and her friend Cara took their time. As they headed toward the elevator, its doors were just about to close when a hand reached out and held them open.

Inside stood two impeccably dressed gentlemen—one a bearded Indian man, the other likely of Caucasian descent. Zeenat noticed their demeanor and sensed they had recognized her. As her friend pressed the lobby button, the bearded man introduced himself warmly, saying, “Ma’am, I’m a big fan of yours, it’s an honour to meet you. You have inspired me since I was a boy.”

Zeenat responded graciously, thanking him for his words. The man then revealed that he was a designer. Just as the elevator stopped, curiosity got the better of her, and she asked, “What is your name?”
