Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, who will soon make his directorial debut with Krrish 4, often makes headlines for his relationship with girlfriend Saba Azad. The couple frequently gets spotted together and flaunts their romance on social media.
However, the actor was previously married to Sussanne Khan and faced a major roadblock, which later resulted in their divorce.
Hrithik and Sussanne were married for 13 years and hit a road bump in 2010 when the actor was filming Kites with Mexican actress Barbara Mori. The duo’s on-screen chemistry was impeccable, which fuelled the rumours of their alleged romance.
The rumours swirled around at the time that the growing closeness of Hrithik and Barbara left Sussanne devastated. Additionally, Sussanne reportedly moved out of their house with their children and started living with her parents following Hrithik’s alleged affair reports.
Hrithik Roshan reacts to rumors about his alleged affair
The ongoing reports of the affair with Barbara Mori caught the attention of Hrithik Roshan, and he debunked the rumors.
In an interview with CNN IBN in 2017, Hrithik slammed the reports and claimed that infidelity wasn’t the reason behind his divorce from Sussanne. He said, “Absolutely not. Sussanne has been very vocal about this. I find it amusing when people assume that a divorce always happens because of infidelity. That is such a small-minded assumption.”
He elaborated, “The general belief was, ‘Oh, he’s a superstar, so he must have done something wrong. She must have caught him.’ But that’s not the case.”
Hrithik added, “The reason we chose to live separately might even be an inspiring one—how do you know?” His response reinforced that their decision was mutual and personal, shutting down baseless gossip once and for all.
Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan’s divorce
Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan tied the knot on December 20, 2000. The couple got married in a beautiful, intimate church ceremony in Bangalore, ditching their traditional wedding. The ex-couple shares two kids, Hrehaan Roshan and Hridaan Roshan.
Hrithik and Sussanne were all set to mark their 13th wedding anniversary in 2013, but they decided to part ways just a week before the celebrations.
Hrithik released an official statement at the time about the separation that reads, “Sussanne has decided to separate from me and end our 17-year relationship. This is a very trying time for the entire family."
They finalised their divorce on November 1, 2014, in the family court in Mumbai. Despite the separation, the former couple maintained a healthy relationship to co-parent their kids.
Hrithik Roshan’s current relationship
Although Hrithik Roshan never confirmed his alleged affair with Barbara, he made headlines for his new relationship. After months of speculations and sightings, Hrithik made his romance with Saba Azad official in 2022 and has been going strong.
Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad met through a mutual friend who is involved in the indie music industry. They stayed in touch and had dinner together, discussing their work. Despite earlier rumors of meeting on a dating app, it's confirmed they connected through a friend and later reconnected on social media.
Meanwhile, Sussanne has also moved on with her boyfriend Arslan Goni.
