Vir Das made history by becoming the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards, which took place on November 25 in New York. Following the event, the stand-up comedian and actor took to social media to express that his experience hosting the 52nd edition of the prestigious awards "went well."
Vir Das, who won an International Emmy nomination last year for his stand-up special Landing, shared a glimpse of his red carpet moment before hosting the ceremony in New York. Posting an Instagram Story on Monday night, the comedian included a heartfelt note alongside his photo from the event that read, "It went well @iemmys."
Following the ceremony, Vir Das posted a snippet from his hosting monologue on social media. In the clip, he humorously alluded to the widely discussed 2022 Oscars incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. "All the major platforms are here tonight and humbly I think next year one of you should really broadcast this show. What do you think? Who does Will Smith have to slap tonight for us to get some eyeballs? I’m kidding. We’re foreigners, you can’t slap foreigners with anything (else) but with sanctions. Sorry, tariffs," he can be heard saying in the video.
Vir Das graced the International Emmy Awards in a striking monochrome outfit designed by Delhi-based emerging designer Shubhangi Bajpai. Earlier in September, the actor had extended an invitation to budding designers, labels, and fashion students to create a custom look for his appearance at the prestigious event.
Das revealed that Shubhangi Bajpai, a 2008 NIFT-Delhi graduate, was chosen from over 4,000 submissions. In response, Bajpai shared her appreciation on Instagram, thanking the comedian for the opportunity and wrote, ""Got to stitch my favourite and can only say I am grateful to bits for this opportunity @virdas @zazu.production @shreejarajgopal."
