The Pongal 2026 season is gearing up for an intense box office showdown, with some of the biggest stars in South Indian cinema ready to compete. Among the highly anticipated releases is Jana Nayagan, Vijay Thalapathy's final film before he transitions into politics and Jr. NTR's untitled project with filmmaker Prashanth Neel.
Jana Nayagan's makers have officially announced that the film will hit theaters on January 9, 2026.
Adding to the excitement, Jr. NTR’s collaboration with Prashanth Neel, tentatively titled NTR 31, NTR Neel, or Dragon, is also slated for a January 9, 2026, release. Despite initial speculation that the film might be postponed to avoid a direct clash with Jana Nayagan, the production team has reaffirmed their commitment to the original release date.
As per an old post shared by Mythri Movie Makers last year, Jr. NTR's film tentatively titled Dragon, is also scheduled for release on January 9, 2026.
Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, helmed by acclaimed director Sudha Kongara, is also expected to join the Pongal race. While the exact release date has yet to be officially announced, industry buzz suggests it will hit screens around the same festive period.
If all three films release simultaneously, the clash is expected to have a significant impact on box office performance, with audiences eagerly awaiting the outcome of this high-stakes battle.
