Actor Tusshar Kapoor, best known for his comic timing in films like Golmaal, is writing a new page in his career. The actor is stepping into the intense world of political thrillers with Prakash Jha’s upcoming film Janadesh.
The project, which features an ensemble cast, will see Tusshar in a pivotal role. Sharing how the film landed in his lap, he said, “Prakash ji called me and told me he had a character for me. It was completely unexpected, like a sign from the universe.”
Known for sticking to lighter roles, Tusshar admitted this was a shift he had been waiting for. “It wasn’t a conscious effort to break an image. I’ve always wanted to do a political thriller, especially with someone like Prakash Jha ji, who’s mastered the genre. I genuinely admire his craft and feel lucky to get this chance.”
The actor revealed that he has been working closely with Jha in workshops to get the nuances right. “We’ve been doing mini sessions to understand the character. He shares how he sees me in the role, and I try to shape it accordingly,” Tusshar added.

As for the character itself, Tusshar clarified it won’t be a direct portrayal of any known figure. “It’s fictional, not based on one person, but definitely inspired by real events and people. The goal is to make it feel as close to life as possible.”
With Janadesh, Tusshar Kapoor is set to leave behind his comic persona, at least for now, and dive into uncharted territory. The film, helmed by Jha, is already generating buzz as audiences wait to see the actor in a new, grittier avatar.
