Thudarum, the newest sensation in Malayalam cinema, starring Mohanlal and Shobhana, is getting ready for its eagerly anticipated digital debut following a successful theatrical run.
When the family drama debuted in theatres on April 26, it not only won over hearts but also had a huge impact at the box office, receiving both praise from critics and admiration from viewers.
Thudarum's extraordinary success has already left its mark on history. With an opening day total of Rs 5 crore, the film has now become the first Malayalam film to reach Rs 100 crore in Kerala alone, bringing its one-month domestic total to an incredible Rs 116 crore.
With Rs 232.25 crore worldwide, it is now the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, trailing only Manjummel Boys (Rs 242 crore) and Mohanlal's own L2 Empuraan (Rs 265).
The film, directed by Operation Java fame Tharun Moorthy, will be available to stream exclusively on JioHotstar from Friday, 30 May.
The announcement was made by the streaming platform on social media, stating: “Thudarum will be streaming from 30 May only on JioHotstar.” Adding to the excitement, the film will be accessible in multiple languages — including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi — expanding its reach beyond the Malayalam-speaking audience.
The story of Thudarum centres on Shanmugham, affectionately referred to as "Benz" because of his cherished black Ambassador Mark 1 automobile. Benz, who used to work as a stunt assistant in movies, now drives a taxi in the picturesque town of Pathanamthitta and leads a peaceful life.
But when his car gets involved in a police investigation, his entire world is upended, and he is drawn into an engrossing journey of justice, truth, and personal fortitude.
