Sonakshi Sinha’s Nikita Roy release postponed to July 18 amid screen battle with Maa, Kannappa

Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming supernatural thriller, Nikita Roy, has officially pushed its release date from June 27 to July 18, 2025. The decision, announced by the film’s makers on June 26, comes in light of what they referred to as a “battle of screens,” as multiple major films are slated for release on the original date.

In a statement shared on her Instagram, Sonakshi explained the rationale behind the postponement. “We have found ourselves in the midst of multiple releases and a battle for screens. With advice from our well-wishers in the fraternity, distributors, and exhibitors, we have collectively decided to push our release… so that we can reach a wider audience.” She concluded with a promise that “18th July will be worth the wait.”

The crowded June 27 slate includes Brad Pitt’s F1, Kajol’s emotional drama Maa, and the Telugu action film Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu. With this level of competition, the makers of Nikita Roy believed a new date would allow their film to receive better visibility and avoid being overshadowed at the box office.

Interestingly, Sonakshi had earlier expressed enthusiasm about sharing a release date with Kajol’s film. “I’m actually really excited because I love her so much as an actor. She’s amazing, and I absolutely love watching her on screen,” she had said in an interview with India Today.

Still, she acknowledged the reality of release clashes in Bollywood: “It’s not the first time two films have clashed. Every week, a new film comes out — clashes happen, and that’s just part and parcel of life.”
