The Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna movie Sikandar was one of the most awaited films of 2025. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film was released in cinemas on March 30, during the Eid weekend. As expected, it opened with a good response at the box office. However, the movie saw a dip in earnings after the festive weekend ended.
On Day 1, Sikandar made Rs 26 crore. The second day saw a bigger collection of Rs 29 crore. But by the third day (Tuesday), the film earned only Rs 19.20 crore, bringing the total collection in India to Rs 74.5 crore. The global (worldwide) collection is now around Rs 95 crore. Even though these are strong numbers, the film could not beat the opening records set by Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, which have been the biggest openers of the year so far.
Sikandar got a mixed response from audiences. While some enjoyed the film’s action and story, others felt it lacked freshness. The movie had a small boost in collections on its first Monday, but failed to maintain the same momentum afterward. One reason for this dip could be the strong competition from other films in theatres. John Abraham’s The Diplomat is doing well in the Hindi-speaking areas, while L2: Empuraan is dominating in the Malayalam regions.
In terms of storyline, Sikandar follows the life of Raja Sahab, played by Salman Khan. He is shown as the last heir of a royal family from Rajkot. People admire him, but his life is full of danger because of his violent way of dealing with criminals. Things take a serious turn when he gets into a fight with a politician’s son, played by Prateik Babbar. The powerful politician, seeking revenge, tries to eliminate Raja Sahab, which puts his life at great risk.
Despite competition, Sikandar is doing decently well. But if it wants to continue strong at the box office, it needs better word-of-mouth publicity and consistent weekday collections. The coming days are important in deciding whether the film will become a blockbuster or slow down at the box office.
With a mix of action, drama, and politics, Sikandar has all the masala of a commercial film. Now it depends on how well the audience supports it in the second week.
