In the world of cinema, age is often just a number, especially when it comes to the magic of on-screen chemistry. Radhika Madan, a rising star in the Indian film industry, recently shared her thoughts on the 27-year age gap with her Sarfira co-star Akshay Kumar. Despite the significant difference in their ages, the duo's performance has been widely praised, with many fans and critics focusing more on their 'cracking chemistry' than on their age disparity.
Radhika Madan, 29, and Akshay Kumar, 56, teamed up for the recently released film Sarfira. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara, hit the screens on July 12 and also features Paresh Rawal. During an interview with India Today, Radhika expressed her surprise at how well the audience received their on-screen partnership. "I read 42 reviews and none of them mentioned the age gap. All they mentioned was they have cracking chemistry, intense chemistry, and lovely chemistry. Everyone mentioned the chemistry," Radhika said.

Addressing the chatter around their age difference, Radhika explained that while the topic was initially a point of discussion when the film was announced and the trailer released, it quickly faded away once the audience experienced their performances. "The same people who were saying that, 'why this' after watching the trailer... We have focused on the superficial aspect of it in the past and so people think 'dobara inhone bhi yeh hi kiya hain' (they have done this again), it's not that. It's a very different story," she clarified.
Radhika went on to explain that the storyline of Sarfira, which is set against the backdrop of India's booming startup culture and aviation industry, provided a deeper context for their characters' connection. The film is a Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, featuring Suriya, and is inspired by the events from the life of Air Deccan Founder Captain GR Gopinath. The original film won five National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film and Best Actor.
"Every explanation is beautifully shown in the film. Everything is addressed from the word 'go'. The age difference is addressed in my opening scene," Radhika stated. She elaborated on how the connection between their characters, Veer and Rani, transcends physical appearances and age. "The reason you don't feel that is because Veer and Rani's connection is way deeper. It's not that she's a good-looking younger chick or he is a handsome older guy. They were fighting so hard with people around them to prove their own dream, that when they saw the other person and saw themselves in them, that was the reason for attraction."
Radhika's insights highlight a crucial aspect of storytelling in cinema: the depth of character relationships. She emphasized that their bond was rooted in mutual respect and understanding, rather than superficial factors. "They felt seen. It was not about how much they earned, or how they looked. She didn't say yes to him, till the time she couldn't respect herself and him."
Radhika's reflections on her role in Sarfira reveal a thoughtful approach to her craft. She expressed gratitude for the positive feedback and the opportunity to work with an industry veteran like Akshay Kumar. "Fans and critics liked her 'cracking chemistry' with Akshay," she noted, adding that the experience was both challenging and rewarding.
