With her debut production Subham set to hit the big screen on May 9, 2025, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is stepping into a new chapter in her career — not just as an actress but now as a producer. In a candid conversation, Samantha reflected on the courage it takes to produce films, especially as a first-timer, and why embracing risk is second nature to her after 15 years in the industry.

“You can't expect meaningful change without taking risks, and I don't think I've ever shied away from taking risks,” Samantha told IANS. “More often than not, those risks have paid off, so probably after 15 years of learning and of being an actor, I believe I've gained that kind of insight and experience needed to be sure of the stories I want to tell.”

Subham, produced under her banner Tra La La Moving Pictures, is a genre-blending family entertainer filled with humor, horror, and suspense. The trailer, launched on April 29, has already generated buzz for its fresh storytelling approach. Speaking about her production team, Samantha added, “We are confident that we support each other fully, and we are committed to putting out work that's intentional and never half-hearted.”

While she has starred in some of South cinema's finest films — including Eega, Mahanati, Theri, and The Family Man — Samantha admits that producing has been a different kind of fulfillment. “While I have no complaints about being an actor, I think it's just one part of the movie-making process. And when you're a producer, there's so much to learn about every aspect of movie-making. It is incredibly fulfilling to be part of the entire process holistically.”
