In the ongoing investigation of the Saif Ali Khan attack case, crucial evidence has been found linking the accused, Shariful, to the crime. The police discovered the fingerprints of the suspect on several objects at the crime scene, including the bathroom window, pipes, and a ladder that Shariful used to gain entry to the actor's flat.
These prints are now being compared with Shariful's fingerprints to confirm his involvement.
The police first collected the fingerprints on the day of the attack and checked them against the national database, but no match was found.
This could be because Shariful has no previous criminal record in India. However, investigators suspect that he may have a criminal history in Bangladesh.
They found that Shariful had carried burglary tools such as hammers and a knife when he climbed into the building. CCTV footage also showed him taking off his shoes before going up the building and putting them back on while coming down.
This suggests he was trying to avoid leaving any trace while climbing the pipes to reach the flat.
Shariful is originally from Bangladesh, where he has two brothers and his parents. He is not married and has no known relatives in India. The police also confirmed that they did not find any Indian identification documents on him.
The day after the crime, Shariful saw his CCTV images on the news, which made him realize that the police were closing in on him.
Fearing capture, he went into hiding in Thane and planned to escape to Bangladesh by boarding the Geetanjali Express. However, before he could carry out his escape plan, the police, working tirelessly, tracked him down and arrested him.
In recognition of the dedicated work of the police team, 75 officers involved in the investigation were honored by Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Satyanarayan in a ceremony on Monday.
