Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has opened up about his daughter Sunaina Roshan’s battle with serious illnesses and surgeries, admiring her resilience in the face of hardships that has been a major source of inspiration for him.
In an interview with News18, Rakesh Roshan shared how Sunaina’s health struggles began in childhood but she has always faced them with courage. “I learnt a lot about dealing with struggles from my daughter. She went through a lot of illnesses and surgeries right since her childhood. But she has always been very brave and used to laugh in the face of hardships. She has always been a happy person, and that taught me a lot. I believe that no matter what the situation is, we should be happy and content,” he said.
Over the years, Sunaina has battled several life-threatening conditions, including cervical cancer, fatty liver disease (Grade 3), brain tuberculosis, jaundice and other liver-related complications. Last year, Sunaina opened up about her journey of adopting a healthier lifestyle after struggling with jaundice and fatty liver disease. In an Instagram video, she revealed how her unhealthy eating habits had negatively impacted her well-being. “Nothing healthy was going into my body,” she admitted, sharing her journey towards better health.

In a recent HER Health Talks podcast, Sunaina shared her experience with cervical cancer, revealing that she initially ignored the symptoms while working as a co-producer on her father’s film project. However, after undergoing medical tests, she was diagnosed with cancer, which forced her to make serious lifestyle changes.
