Prime Minister Narendra Modi has picked some well-known names from the film industry to support him in his latest campaign against obesity. He has raised concerns over the growing obesity in India and urged people to cut down on oil consumption. He nominated Bollywood celebrities and requested them to join his new mission.
PM Modi took to his X and wrote, “As mentioned in yesterday’s #MannKiBaat, I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food. I also request them to nominate 10 people each so that our movement gets bigger.”
He tagged the prominent personalities which also include actors Mohanlal, R Madhavan, Nirahua and singer Shreya Ghoshal as well as political figures, sports champions and businessmen. He also nominated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Anand Mahindra, weightlifter Mirabai, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekeni, philanthropist and MP Sudha Murty, and shooting legend Manu Bhaker.
During his latest Mann Ki Baat episode, PM Modi shared data and revealed that every one in eight people in India is suffering from obesity. He shared that obesity has widely increased in the last few years and is expected to double in the coming years. He asked people to use 10 per cent less oil every month.
He added, “This will be an important step towards reducing obesity. By making small changes in our eating habits, we can make our future stronger, fitter and disease-free." PM Modi notably nominated celebrities who have recently shown amazing weight loss transformation in the last few years.
However, R Madhavan has already joined the drive and promoted PM Modi's mission on his social media. He shared his video requesting his followers to join the mission and said, "Youth obesity is a growing concern, but the good news is—we can prevent it!"
The actor added, "Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, initiatives promoting fitness and healthy living are empowering individuals to make better lifestyle choices. Let’s take charge of our well-being and embrace a fitter future!"
On the work front, Mohanlal has recently announced his upcoming Drishyam 3. The shooting of the film will begin this year and is expected to be released in 2026.
Meanwhile, R Madhavan brought a storm with his role in Shaitaan. However, he will be next seen in De De Pyaar De 2 and Kesari Chapter 2.
