‘The ‘Exorcist’ universe will get another instalment all thanks to the ‘Doctor Sleep’ and ‘Midnight Mass’ director Mike Flanagan.

The ‘Haunting of Hill House’ director will write, direct and produce the new instalment that is being described as a “radical new take” on ‘The Exorcist’ for production house Blumhouse and Morgan Creek. Universal has announced that the untitled instalment will hit theatres on March 13, 2026.

“’The Exorcist’ is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favourite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting,” Flanagan stated.

Flanagan’s interpretation of the franchise is not a sequel to David Gordon Green’s ‘The Exorcist: Believer.’ Initially, the film was supposed to be the first of a trilogy with a sequel ‘The Exorcist: Deceiver' scheduled to hit theatres in 2025. But Green exited the franchise after ‘Believer’ underperformed with critics even though it grossed $137 million globally.
